Fenella Woolgar, born August 4, 1969, is an English film, theater, television, and radio actress. Her parents, Michael and Maureen, raised her in Hillingdon, a borough in West London. She is half Irish and grew up in New Canaan, Connecticut, USA. Woolgar went to Mayfield School and Durham University before enrolling at RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art).

While still in university, she directed Murder in the Cathedral at Durham Cathedral, and she also wrote and performed comedy in The Durham Revue. Woolgar made her film debut as Agatha in Bright Young Things in 2003, for which she received multiple nominations.

She went on to appear in several films, including Vera Drake, Mr. Turner, The Veil, Scoop, and You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger. actress is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Agatha Christie in Doctor Who, in which she co-starred with David Tennant in 2008. She portrayed Dr. Sofia Lamb, the antagonist in the computer game Bioshock, in 2010. In 2014 and 2015, she portrayed Alison Scotlock in Home Fires. She was cast as Sister Hilda in Call the Midwife in 2018.

Throughout her career, she has won and been nominated for numerous awards in theater, film, and television. In 2013, she won the Clarence Derwent Award for Best Supporting Actress in the West End. She was named Stage Performance of the Year the following year.

She was recently named Celebrity Portrait Artist of the Year in 2019. Aside from that, she has received multiple nominations for Best Supporting Actress. In 2013, she was nominated for Best Actress at the BBC Radio Drama Awards.
